Well I guess it's about time I get off my ass and
get started. I actually straightened out the clip last
weekend. The clip is from the railroad. I've been told
it is 1070 with a little manganese thrown in. Being this
is a camp knife and I feel a camp knife should be on the
larger side I'm making the blade a little over 12".
It is sort of modeled after a barong with a guard and it
will have a cord wrapped handle.
Here is the clip I started from.

Forging the handle.

Milling the slot in the guard. I'll forge a curve in the
in the guard next and heat treat. Hope to get back to it
by the weekend.

I got some friends who work at the streetcar museum, they
are also Railroad guys. They told me what the steel was
so when they were redoing a train line near me I asked
the linemen if I could have a few. They had a pile 8' wide
6' high and maybe 300' long they were scrapping. I got
some.
I have mixed this stuff in some damascus.....works well.

So now it's ready for the handle. I recently did a Chinese
cord wrap which is different than the Japanese one I normally
do. I put one on a small EDC to try it out and it works great...looks
good to.
I'm thinking I will use red underlay but I'll have to make
some longer ones.

Finally got around to finishing the cordwrap.

I like this pict but I thought I'd post a little video showing
the edge this steel took.
I know it's not the greatest but what do you expect from
a phone.

My knife is forged from a Rail Road clip. It's 1070 with
some manganese for strength.
It is 19" over all, 12" blade, 7" handle,
2" at the widest point and 1/4 " at the thickest.
The guard is 1/4" 10/30 with a forge finish.
The wrap is gutted 440 paracord over a blue underlay.
